SAN FRANCISCO HEALTH SERVICE SYSTEM Once again the SFHSS must deal with Operating in a Virtual Environment and is closed to the public with remote meetings. SFHSS is preparing to issue a request for proposals (RFP) to competitively bid out our medical plans for active employees and early retirees (non-Medicare) in September 2020. The goal of the RFP supports the 5 strategic goals the SFHSS established in 2019. They are; Affordable and Sustainable Health Care Plans, Reduce Plan Complexity and Fragmentation, Engage and Support SFHSS Members, Choice and Flexibility, Whole Person Health and Well-Being. Vendor Black Out period that commenced February 13,2020, has been extended through the rest of this calendar year to include the period for the Medical Plan selection process. Subsequently, SFHSS will be in negotiations with Medical, Dental and Vision plan providers for PLAN Year 2022 and therefore the Vendor Black Out Period will continue through June 2021. SAN FRANCISCO EMPLOYEE RETIREMENT SYSTEM (SFERS) Fiscal year (2019-2020) returns have finalized at 2.41% which topped our median peer return of 1.34%, ranking in the top 32%. SFERS invest gained 3.86% in the month of August. Two months into FY2020-2021has posted a return of 6.54%. This is still amazing, considering the financial picture of the world. SFERS recently extended an offer to a candidate for our inaugural Manager of Operations role, and the offer has been accepted. Staff will make a formal announcement after the candidate begins employment this month.

The financial roller-coaster ride and throw in the political theatre just to top it off. But we at POB are keeping our eyes focused on your health system and retirement system.
