SAN FRANCISCO HEALTH SERVICE SYSTEM
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has endorsed the first updated COVID-19 booster shots-reformulated versions of the Modera and Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccines. The booster shots target both the original strain of the coronavirus and the omicron BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants that most people are catching now. This double-barreled vaccine is called a bivalent vaccine. S.F.’s latest COVID-19 surge is waning and we prepare for future surges. But be prepared with vaccinations, rapid test kits, masks, and access to medical care.
Also, SFHSS led the public safety departments through a vendor selection process and is pleased to announce the selection of Mental Health Network (MHN), a market leader in providing mental health services for public safety employees and their families.
SFHSS also is planning to host a mental health vendor summit within the next few months to bring all the health plans, their vendors, and others to define and develop pathways to mental health and well-being for all of our members.
October is Open Enrollment Month. In a few days, you should receive information concerning the rates and benefits of health plans with SFHSS. Look them over and pick what is best for you.
SAN FRANCISCO EMPLOYEE RETIREMENT BOARD SYSTEM (SFERS)
As of August 31, 2022, SFERS total fund value was $33.58 Billion. The Year-to-Date earnings are -8.99% while the Fiscal Year to Date was 0.33%.
The mid-August rally turned negative at month end as hopes for an end to Fed rate hikes were dampened and fears of slow growth returned. One of the key themes of SFERS moving forward is to remain focused on Long Term Returns while understanding that long-term secular growth (stock market activity) may underperform during periods of market stress.
SFERS has determined that there were no excess earnings during the fiscal year ending June 30, 2022. Consequently, no supplemental COLA is payable effective July 1, 2022.
