SAN FRANCISCO HEALTH SERVICE SYSTEM
The new 2024 rates and benefits will shortly go before the board of supervisors for their July hearings. HSS has worked with Delta Dental PPO, DeltaCare USA HMO, and UHC (UnitedHealthcare) to recruit more dentists for these plans, hopefully benefiting our retirees. Also, SFHSS will focus more on expanding mental health services for members, which in these times is so necessary!!
SAN FRANCISCO EMPLOYEE RETIREMENT BOARD (SFERS)
As of May 31, 2023, SFERS total fund was valued at $33.058 Billion. For the fiscal year to date, the investment earnings were 2.20%.
As per the Executive Summary of Investment Performance relative to peers (public funds with assets greater the $1 billion), SFFERS results ranked in the upper 10%, for the 5-year and 10-year time periods. Over the last 5 years, the SFERS portfolio returned 8.30% per annum.
For 2023 SFERS portfolio returned 2.93% for the first quarter ending March 31,2023.
As in the past, and during its first regular meeting in June, the SFERS Board elects one of its members President and Vice-President. Each shall hold the office for a term ending the first meeting in June of next year or until a successor has been elected. Elected President this year was Commissioner Scott Heldfond and Vice-President Commissioner A.J. Thomas.

POB is trying to become more streamlined and keep you, the retiree up to date. We will be publishing our online Newsletter quarterly with the goal of making it more expansive. Our email campaign to SFERS worked when SFERS was considering whether to discontinue remote public comment on their monthly ZOOM meetings. Congratulations!! Your emails led to a unanimous vote to retain public comment. We are also setting up meetings with HSS staff, the providers, and all stakeholders in an effort to more fully understand the healthcare system, attempting to keep costs down.
