POB’s next scheduled meeting with representatives from HSS, BSC and the Retired Employees City and County of San Francisco (RECCSF) is scheduled for July 8th. Thanks to POB and our ongoing advocacy efforts, Blue Shield is well aware they have a problem with their high level of denials of care. They have put doctors in place since Jan. 1, 2026 to track and directly talk to doctors in an attempt get their percentage of denials of services to go down.

While we have seen some improvement, it’s not enough. We must have evidence in writing that all services our members deserve – i.e cancers, transplants, prescription drugs and more – are being addressed.

We will continue to fight for the best health care for our City retirees to honor our recently fallen members: Ken Jones and Tony Fazio. We will be back before the Board of Supervisors if real hard evidence of progress is not presented at our next meeting. Blue Shield has assured us that they will meet the challenge.
