SAN FRANCISCO HEALTH SERVICE SYSTEM
The Health Service System will be sending out the Open Enrollment Packets in a few weeks. October is open enrollment month. In the packets will be the new rates, contributions, and benefits of the different plans. Be sure to look over all the information. There have been some new benefits especially with Delta Dental. Remember, YOU are YOUR BEST ADVOCATE!! POB has been receiving calls from retirees who have been getting scammer phone calls. These scammers will use anything to get any information, such as: “your health service has been cancelled”, “you have no Medicare,” “give us your social security number and we’ll straighten it out.” DO NOT RESPOND TO THESE PEOPLE, HANG UP THE PHONE. San Francisco Health Service System DOES NOT OPERATE THIS WAY. NEITHER DOES MEDICARE!! If you receive any of these phone calls, please hang up. SAN FRANCISCO EMPLOYEE RETIREMENT SYSTEM (SFERS)
For the Fiscal Year ending June 2021 the final calculation of SFFER’s return for the fiscal year is at an astounding 33.70%. The assets returned for August are 2.71%. Calendar year to date SFERS has generated an estimated return of 17.61% through August 31st. Estimated assets at the end are $36.0 Billion. The Fund is doing well. As for the decision of combining CFO/CIO jobs, hopefully the Trustees will find somebody that can do the job. Even though it may be forbidden to combine the jobs by the City Charter which the City is trying to circumvent. POB will keep you updated on this important issue.

POB, to follow through on our promise of not forgetting about our pre-1996 retirees has been organizing, contacting, and has hired consultants to make sure we have a ballot measure on the June 2021 ballot. POB, as a non-profit can’t advocate on a ballot measure, which is why we formed a PAC, “Restore Retirees City Workers Earned Benefits 2021.” We are part of a broad coalition of labor organizations, senior organizations and retirement organizations advocating on behalf of our most senior city retirees average of 85 years of age or more.
